I am using Xubuntu 18.10 and I find that the delete key does not function at all, unless an image is opened in a separate window. I have re-compiled Geeqie v1.3 with 18.10 and I find the same problem, so I suspect the problem is originating outside Geeqie. I have only an ancient laptop with me at the moment, and it will be a couple of weeks before I am back home (where I have a more extensive range of ancient computers) and can take an in-depth look at this.
