I shall not fix this bug for Debian, where I maintain the package. When I manage a system with scarse disk capabilities, I disallow the resolution of Recommends; if the package sympy was depending on texlive- fonts-extra, it would not be possible, but as it only recommends it, I can have sympy without the big package. Many users of sympy are using it with ordinary laptops or desktops, which are currently sold with big enough disks, i.e. 2 gigabytes may be less than 0.2% of the disk.
