oh i see what's happening here, just to confirm: 1. You have a Bionic host 2. You are trying to deploy Xenial. 3. Xenial will use the rom available in bionic from comment #6 to PXE. 4. chreipl fails to configure.
So based on 4 and comment #4, then this would be like an issue on chreipl which is external to MAAS.
