the problem still exist on gutsy. was the first thing i tested tested on my ati-based laptop. As for the xorgand the output i can't help you right now because i've installed the ati drivers to be able to use blender and i currently don't have much time for messing around, testing stuff (i am in the middle of my semester with 12 lessons on my back :D ) But it's easy to reproduce, at least on all the ati computers i have tried. just install or run from the live cd on an ati gpu pc with the open source drivers and apt-get blender, run blender and you should be seeing the green (or other color) outlines on the interface. to reproduce the lasso problem just ctrl-drag a circle on the viewport. sorry for not being able to help further, alex
