Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
The ubuntu changes are:
Replace RSTRING(foo)->ptr with RSTRING_PTR(foo)
Replace RSTRING(foo)->len with RSTRING_LEN(foo)
This is fixed in debian
