Similar/same problem affects me on Asus X51R (Laptop). OS: Lubuntu 18.04. 32-Bit
Occured after automatic update including Kernel probably around 4.15.0-48 Ubuntu seems to boot up, switches on and off screen several times. Logon screen does NOT appear. Instead, it restarts itself. After restarting itself it gets stuck onto a black screeen showing a very big mouse-pointer. (Mouse-Pointer can be moved using the track-pad. However not further interaction with the system is possible.) Booting up the system in recovery mode is possible. However, screen resolution is restricted. Booting up the system using an older kernel (4.09.xxx) is possible. Screen resolution is OK, but WIFI is not available, then.
