+1 When I finally had to use snap a year or so ago I installed a few other applications. I had to fix a .desktop file in one of the snaps. Got confused why I couldn't edit the offending file as root, realized they were mounted read-only images.
A few week later saw $HOME/snap and figured it was just left over from my previous investigation since genuine Linux programs [0] usually don't do things like that and nuked it. Realized my mistake when the snap programs all lost their data. This is one of those things that confused me and could scare less experienced users into thinking it's some sort of virus or nefarious actor. [0]: A few current offenders include: Silicon Labs Simplicity Studio, ST Micro STM32CubeMX, Xilinx Vivado; you see the trend. There are other these are just the recent ones. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575053 Title: Please move the "$HOME/snap" directory to a less obtrusive location To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/snapd/+bug/1575053/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
