Looking at the recent comments, I think you are taking this to the wrong direction. There is no point in discussing a workaround for this bug, because even knowledgeable users who know how to apply those workarounds won't know that they even need to look for a workaround before it is too late.
The installer is lying to the end-user, giving it a choice and then ignoring it, while severely harming the system.
