I have the same problem - Had VPN working great under 6.10, then fine
under 7.04, then decided to accept upgrade to 7.10 and the VPN stopped
working. Decided to rebiuld to 7.04 still wouldn't work and have finally
built new 7.10.

On 7.10 I have installed network-manager-pptp (this is the only thing
different from a straight install) and according to synaptic it's
0.6.5+svnhead2574-0ubuntu1_i386 so from another post this looks right.
Just one thing to point out it's a guest on VMWare Workstation 6 with an
XP host.

I can create a vpn connection definition, but then have no way of
starting it.

There does seem to be a general problem with recent packages (if only I
knew which ones!) even going to manual configuration I get the following
errors in syslog (I've seen this on other bug threads I've found as well
- just added here for weight)
