Thanks for the detailed explanation.

I have looked at this purely from a passive downloader perspective. For me,
the sourceforge repo from Mr Sidorov has always looked stale to me, since
the last change in downloadable files really is from 4 Jan 2014, in the
5.0.1 folder dated from 20 May 2015.

So, I assumed this to be dead (no activity for more than 5 years now).

The github repo has decent activity, I can't really tell if they are
windows-focused, but they do offer a Linux version, which runs very well on
my Eoan system here. I am willing to install this on a couple other systems
of mine if you need more feedback from a user perspective.

In terms of stability and day-to-day usage, it is much better than the
5.0.1 version, which used to hang sometimes and had noticeable delays.
These are gone now.
