Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: git

The latest gitk release just put into the hardy repos (1:1.5.3.6-1) is
installing files to locations it shouldnt be (or files that shouldn't be
copied at all).

Here is one from debian/rules:
"rm -f '$(GIT)'-core/usr/share/perl5/Error.pm"

This is obviously not meeting the LFS standards and conflicts with such
packages such as:

"E: /var/cache/apt/archives/git-core_1%3a1.5.3.6-1_amd64.deb: trying to
overwrite `/usr/share/perl5/Error.pm', which is also in package
liberror-perl"

There are other files that seem suspicious, like
"rm -f '$(GIT)'-core/usr/share/man/man3/private-Error.3pm"

This bug report may need to be transferred upstream to Debian.

** Affects: git (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
