Binary package hint: gnome-panel

You can easily expand the number of workspaces available by right-
clicking on the workspace panel.

However, from the "keyboard shortcuts" appl. in the "System/Preferences"
menu you can only assign shortcuts for switching to the first two
workspaces.  To get a shortcut for every one of the workspaces, you need
to install the compiz config manager something (to get the "Advanced
Desktop Effect Settings") and enter the shortcuts where necessary.
