Public bug reported:
When attempting to take a screenshot, pressing the hotkey for the area-
selection feature, the mouse cursor changes into a crosshair and the
user is able to select an area for the screenshot.
The problem occurs if the user is attempting to take a screenshot of
something like a modal window in a browser, or a dropdown window that
requires the mouse cursor to be in a certain place or a mouse button to
be pressed. If a user tries to take a screenshot of something like that,
the mouse 'goes away', and the modal changes, and the dropdown retracts,
or otherwise 'goes away'.
It's impossible to use gnome-screenshot to take a screenshot of anything
that requires the mouse be present for the situation to occur.
In the same circumstance on macos/osx, the mouse cursor doesnt 'go away'
- a user could, for example, click and drag a selection box across the
desktop, and while holding down the mouse button so that selection box
stays alive, press the screenshot hotkey, and macos/osx would retain the
mouse button press, and the mouse cursor position such that it is
possible to take a screenshot of the selection box.
That functionality in gnome-screenshot would be supremely useful!
