Well problem is I had this bug and I tried various fixes. In the end I think it is something to do with the wireless config not the kernel. For me this bug was fixed by chance.
I had it that if I used the live cd then I'd get a connection but if I installed then I could not connect. In fact by chance when I tried to install again my internet connection went down part way through the install. I rebooted into my new system and it all works and has done for a couple of days and through several reboots. I suggest that if anyone with some expertise wants to ask for particular conf files etc I will provide them and we can see why mine now works. Hope I can be of some help.
