Hello Same issue with purple screen when login screen should be displayed.
By adding nomodeset to the Linux kernel line in Grub I was able to get to the login screen. But now I am just left at the purple screen once I have entered my login credentials and pressed enter. I have checked for BIOS update, none available. I am on a Dell Inspiron 7720. Moving the mouse on the login screen is also very sluggish.
