I'm having similar issues but my remedy is slightly different. My RAID1 isn't critical (yet) to the system so when things are booted up I just click an icon and this runs: modprobe md mdadm --assemble --scan mount -a
It's not elegant and it needs root privs and while things are like this, there's no chance of me moving /home onto the RAID1.
