@laney, I have this MR open to fix this bug:

If that is accepted upstream, in order to fix tests run on
autopkgtest.ubuntu.com, how far back would we need to sru it?  It
*should* be ok even as far back as trusty, but I'd prefer not to sru it
any farther back that we really need it.
