/opt/share/ppd is not required. It is only an alternative search path
for CUPS which can be used by printer-manufacturer-supplied driver
packages. CUPS simply goes on searching the other locations for PPD
files.

To check whether your IP access to the router is OK start system-config-
printer, select the print queue entry for your network-connected printer
and click the "Change" button near the URI. After some time a window
will pop up. Click the "Verify" button in the right part of the window.
If it tells OK, your computer can correctly access the printer. If there
is an error, verify whether "Host" contains the host name or IP of the
router. Correct if needed. Then click "Find Queue" and select the
correct queue in the queue list, Click "Verify" again and if there is no
error any more click OK.
