I agree with Luca, you should:
1) Change your changelog:
- no need to mention your tool in it
- mention the remaining ubuntu changes that you carry over
Something like this (for example):
xtide (2.9.3-3ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low
* Merge with Debian. Remaining changes:
- Add desktop file.
- Set Ubuntu maintainer address.

2) You should also check that the added .desktop file is still valid. In
particular this contains a couple of obsolete entries (hint: use
desktop-file-validate)
