Public bug reported:

I installed a new PCI device (Linksys WMP300N) and after this X would
not start. Here is the output from startx:

xauth: creating new authority file /home/rcrosbie/.serverauth.5734

I traced to problem to the BusID which before I installed the wireless
card my video card was detected on PCI:7.0.0. After it was changed to
PCI:2.0.0. I did not change the physical locations of any of the cards
in my computer. I just added a new PCI device.
