I had pretty much the same thing on a circa 2001 G3 PPC iBook; could not
load the Live CD, got the Alternate to load up, but when I cranked it up
after installation, the s/w hung up shortly after and it returned a
"prom-init" error. (I can replicate this and get the hex values I
believe, if that is helpful). Luckily, hitting "tab" at the command
line prompt served up a couple of options, including "hda3-Linux" which
proved to be my last install, which I'm using now. Thanks for working
out these bugs, and for the PPC install.
