Public bug reported:

I was attempting to use the -l flag of mosquitto_pub, which takes
messages from stdin. Running with the -d flag shows that it waits for
CONNACK from the server, but the server does indeed send CONNACK.

looking at this thread: 
https://github.com/eclipse/mosquitto/issues/1150

it looks like WITH_THREADING needs to be enabled, but it appears that it
is in the 19.10 release.

I'd track it down further, but I'm not really sure where to start on
this one!
