I've got what seems the same problem using the restricted nvidia driver provided by gutsy. lspci reports my card as:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G72M [GeForce Go 7400] (rev a1) With compiz enabled the window decorators sometimes are bad redrawn and you have to switch desktops or focus to get the decoration right again.
