For sure I thought this was a bug because it appeared platform dependent and only associated with nano. The first thing I did was I checked my version of PuTTy which was .70 and then checked the PuTTy site and updated to PuTTy .73 and this "bug" is gone. Updating PuTTy to .73 resolved my issue. Probably the first thing I should have done, but we never quit learning. Nano is my favorite terminal editor.
