Public bug reported: Hi, more and more packages/programs are moved from apt to snap, or you need to use snap in order to have current versions.
However, snapd performs a snap refresh at certain intervals (daily, most probably) and there is no (obvious) way to keep it from doing that. This can cause lots of trouble and costs. When you're on a metered connection or within limited bandwidth or volume, this can cause severe costs or turn services off. e.g. when roaming with a mobile, sitting in an airplane, train, or something like that, or beeing guest in someone elses network, this can really harm. Airplanes have a slow satellite connection, shared by all passengers, and can't take it if one or more of it's passengers are wasting lots of bandwidth just for nothing. There's also snap packages that are updated on a daily base. If there's an option to turn this off, I didn't see where it is documented. All I found is this: https://askubuntu.com/questions/930593/how-to-disable-autorefresh-in-snap but my network settings don't have this option. If it doesn't have suche an option, it's severely broken. regards ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: snapd 2.42.1+18.04 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-72.81-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-72-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: zfs zunicode zavl icp zcommon znvpair ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.9 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: XFCE Date: Fri Jan 10 15:24:24 2020 InstallationDate: Installed on 2018-06-09 (579 days ago) InstallationMedia: Lubuntu 18.04 LTS "Bionic Beaver" - Release amd64 (20180426) SourcePackage: snapd UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: snapd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug bionic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1859185 Title: No (obvious) way to turn autorefresh off To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/snapd/+bug/1859185/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
