This bug is related to the issue of default annotation appearance handling.
It isn't just "image stamp" handling. What I'm worried about is that if it goes to GSoC or someone else handles it they won't resolve the larger issue of highlight annotations, note annotations, etc. All these are VERY important to resolve now.
