Public bug reported:
Recently I have come to use Whonix 15.0.0.7.1 as guest OS running in a VM under
KVM, while the host OS I am running is Ubuntu 18.04.3. Problem is the slow
shutdown of Whonix which most of times takes about 2 minutes. There is a
problem report regarding this issue on Whonix which testifies I am not the only
user affected by this problem.
https://forums.whonix.org/t/slow-shutdown-of-version-15-workstation-and-gateway/8828
Still other people seem not affected (a regular shutdown should take about 3
seconds).
One of Whonix maintainers Patrick asked for log files. Part of the
systemd log:
Jan 24 11:13:38 host systemd[1]: session-1.scope: Stopping timed out. Killing.
Jan 24 11:13:38 host systemd[1]: session-1.scope: Killing process 1956
(lightdm) with signal SIGKILL.
Jan 24 11:13:38 host systemd[1]: session-1.scope: Failed with result ‘timeout’.
Jan 24 11:13:38 host systemd[1]: Stopped Session 1 of user user.
This provoked Patrick to ask for the lightdm logs. I sent those as well,
which did not reveal anything out of the ordinary. Still Patrick thought
I should contact the upstream maintainer of the lightdm package. Version
lightdm: 1.26.0-4.
