works for me in bionic
first shell:
mosquitto_pub -t "AB/M/test/0/A" -h test.mosquitto.org -p 1883 -l --retain
# write something
second shell:
mosquitto_sub -h test.mosquitto.org -p 1883 -t "AB/M/test/0/A"
and works!
