When the feature is available you will be able to open any file and just confirm a prompt using a trusted security mechanism (e.g. integrated with gnome shell). All files are representable from a snap point of view, though not at the original path (in your example the path will be /var/lib/snapd/hostfs/my/custom/path/file.avi, though we are also considering abbreviating that to /host/my/custom/path/file.avi
