Public bug reported:
php7.4-mbstring : Depends: libonig4 (>= 5.9.5) but it is not installable
On further investigation, focal ships with libonig5.
Just as a bit of debugging, if I force it to install with --ignore-depends
PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'mbstring.so' (tried:
/usr/lib/php/20190902/mbstring.so (libonig.so.4: cannot open shared object
file: No such file or directory)
and then ln -s libonig.so.5 libonig.so.4
then it seems to function OK
these are the affected packages (which are current as of 13 Feb 2020)
php7.4-mbstring_7.4.2-6+ubuntu18.04.1+deb.sury.org+1_amd64.deb"
"php-mbstring_2%3a7.4+72+ubuntu18.04.1+deb.sury.org+1_all.deb"
