Ubuntu MATE 19.10 and onward default to Marco and Compiz is no longer
shipped on the iso image. One reason for this change is to present a
well-integrated default experience. Marco has received many improvements
recently than mean Compiz is no longer required to erradicate screen
tearing or improve gaming performance.
