Hi, since it now appears that Focal will have 5.4 kernel (1), I tested integrating the upstream kernel patches (2) related to this issue in current Focal kernel master and master-next branches (3). Patches applied smoothly to both branches and with both kernels the display backlight works correctly in my test devices (Intel Apollolake based tablets).
