Public bug reported: Ubuntu Customization Kit has not been maintained for years.
The Launchpad project page https://launchpad.net/uck tells: "!!!PROJECT DISCONTINUED!!!" Using UCK on current Ubuntu releases aborts with errors, e.g. because - the script tries to copy a file to itself (mtab) - gfxboot-theme-ubuntu_* is no longer provided as tar.gz, but as tar.xz archive. If you look at bugs and questions for the UCK prject (and uck on Ubuntu), you will see dozens of failure reports.
