Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xdg-user-dirs

Applications hang (and often the entire system) when a broken symbolic link is
used as an xdg directory.
On my system, ~/Pictures is a symbolic link to /mnt/stuff/images/ which is
often not available at login time. If I try to do an 'ls' of that directory, or
open the Save As.. dialog in firefox, that application hangs and often the
system hangs aswell.
Straight after a Gnome login, the Pictures folder is not displayed at all in
Nautilus - it only appears once the target folder has been mounted.

System is Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy).
xdg-usr-dirs is version: 0.9-0ubuntu2

The offending link target is mounted via CIFS, but I haven't tried to
reproduce the problem on other filesystems yet.

** Affects: xdg-user-dirs (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
