Public bug reported:
I have a fresh focal installation that I was attempting to do an apt
dist-upgrade.
As part of the upgrade, it was hung here:
Setting up snapd (2.44~pre1+20.04) ...
Installing new version of config file
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.lib.snapd.snap-confine.real ...
Created symlink
/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/snapd.recovery-chooser-trigger.service
→ /lib/systemd/system/snapd.recovery-chooser-trigger.service.
snapd.failure.service is a disabled or a static unit, not starting it.
snapd.snap-repair.service is a disabled or a static unit, not starting it.
I left the process for approximately 40 minutes with no activity. Checking the
process tree here is what was running:
root 3249 0.0 0.0 20196 4640 pts/1 S+ 14:58 0:00 | | \_
sudo apt dist-upgrade

root 19248 0.0 0.0 15668 5980 pts/0 S+ 15:15 0:00
\_ /bin/systemd-tty-ask-password-agent --watch
I tried to kill process 19248, but it kept hanging.
root 3249 0.0 0.0 20196 4640 pts/1 S+ 14:58 0:00 | | \_

\_ /bin/sh /var/lib/dpkg/info/snapd.postinst configure
2.43.3+git1.8109f8
root 19217 0.0 0.0 20596 3604 pts/0 S+ 15:15 0:00
\_ /bin/systemctl start snapd.autoimport.service
snapd.core-fixup.service snapd.recovery-chooser-trigger.service
root 19248 0.0 0.0 0 0 pts/0 Z+ 15:15 0:00
\_ [systemd-tty-ask] <defunct>
So I killed process 19217, and then the postinst continued and upgrade
proceeded.
