As I understand it, this issue was fixed/hidden for a few years, because the decision of trying vs. installing was promoted to Grub rather than Ubiquity.
Dimitri and I recently agreed to simplify the Grub menu by deferring this decision back to Ubiquity, so it’s now an issue again.
