I have this problem too. It can also be a mechanical problem, which in
my case I believe it is as the above commands all do what ejecting
manually via the button does. The rubber band driving the pulley to open
the door do wear out and need to be replaced. Since the price of DVD
drives has plummeted in recent years, it appears they are made more
cheaply.

The door wants to open, it just can't because of the pulley band
slipping due to wear and tear.
