Launching Emacs outside of gdm seems like a typical use case for a headless client, for instance using Virtualbox and ssh. I also noticed placing this in the environment:
export NO_AT_BRIDGE=1 resolves the error by preventing this AT extension from loading. My Emacs load time is much faster.
