I've attempted this twice (same box), on first run on each case I've had this result, where calamares appears frozen, the circling thing just freezes, no changes to page. On first attempt, at start system had a full disk install, then install alongside (approx 2/3rd of disk kept for first install, remaining third for second install), I selected the smaller partition and it 'froze'. I killed calamares then tried again using calamares -d & it failed with different issue. I rebooted for this re-try This attempt the smaller (~1/3) space now showed as 'unknown' which possibly complicates things, but this issue occurred before; maybe clues with http://launchpad.net/bugs/1864787 b/c I uploaded session.log), or the pausing I'm filing the issue about.
