I upgraded to kernel 2.6.22-gentoo-r9 (I am using Gentoo, so it's not
Ubuntu specific) and the same thing happens to me, seemingly randomly.

(Ctrl+T "locks up" for a few seconds in which time dozens of empty pages
opens and with my luck this problem reappears again when I close them
with Ctrl+W all of the pages close in couple of seconds lag and then the
browser window closes itself as by closing the last active tab in
Firefox does.)

Before this upgrade, I had 2.6.21-gentoo-r4 and didn't experience this
problem.

This has happened previously as well (I had newer kernel version than
2.6.21 (can't remember which version exactly) back then when this
occured and this was among one of the problems why I was forced to
downgrade back to 2.6.21-gentoo-r4 where I don't experience this
problem)

No other modules loaded, all configs can be verified in the
2.6.22-gentoo-r9's kernel .config file I attach to this post (next post
contains 2.6.21-gentoo-r4's .config)
