Public bug reported:
Looks like font Noto is corrupted somehow.
Using another 19.10 installation as a reference, I recovered by blind choosing
a font using xfce4-settings-manager, going to font and choose any font.
Then I checked many different fonts but Noto, all variants, gives no glyphs,
only squares with ASCII codes.
I'm available for further info.
