As mentioned in comment #37 the internal mic works well with Ubuntu 20.04 live mode. I haven't tried installing Ubuntu 20.04 though, as some report the mic doesn't work once installed.
I wish I knew more and had the time to understand the difference (beyond kernel) between Ubuntu 20.04 live mode and non-live mode. I'm currently running Ubuntu 19.10. Let me know if there is something I can test to understand why Ubuntu 20.04 live mode works.
