Public bug reported:

I upgraded my Ubuntu 19.10 laptop to 20.04 LTS and now mpv is unable to
play any video. I've tried it with files that played fine on 19.10.
All I get is

$ mpv http://intranet-host.example.com/somevideo.avi
 (+) Video --vid=1 (mpeg4 624x480 23.976fps)
 (+) Audio --aid=1 (mp3 2ch 44100Hz)
[vo/gpu/wayland] GNOME's wayland compositor is known to have many serious
issues with mpv. Switch to GNOME's xorg session for the best experience.
