I have now backed out all of the r8101 module and rebooted with the r8169. The system now works - this bug can be closed. Some update I've installed seems to have fixed the issue.
The original issue was the Ethernet was not recognized. As can be seen below, it is now recognized: > nmcli device status DEVICE TYPE STATE CONNECTION enp3s0 ethernet connected Odysseus 192.168.2.x wlp4s0 wifi unavailable -- p2p-dev-wlp4s0 wifi-p2p unavailable -- lo loopback unmanaged -- I do not have a copy of the dmesg from the past when it was not working. The current dmesg (excerpt here; full file attached later just for information) shows the recognition of the Ethernet: [ 0.960609] r8169 0000:03:00.0: can't disable ASPM; OS doesn't have ASPM control [ 0.969112] libphy: r8169: probed [ 0.969570] r8169 0000:03:00.0 eth0: RTL8106e, f8:a9:63:7a:a5:c4, XID 449, IRQ 47 [ 0.974858] r8169 0000:03:00.0 enp3s0: renamed from eth0 ... In short, this bug can be closed as it has been fixed by an update since my original issue (on the beta release of Kubuntu 20.04). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1875117 Title: Realtek RTL810xE Ethernet [10ec:8136] Subsystem [1179:f91b] not recognized To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1875117/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
