Public bug reported:

Error installing linux-image-5-4.0-28-generic
Installed linux-image-5.40.0-28-generic package post-installation script
subprocess returned error exit status 1

And on another attempt:

Error removing initramfs-tools
Installed initramfs-tools package post-installation script subprocess returned
error exit status 1

And also hit a bug dating back to 2011(!) where the installer hangs if
you don't format some partitions.

Been busy trying to install for hours.
Once left Kubuntu for Mint just because of the shoddy QA of Kubuntu.
With Mint no longer making a KDE version, decided to try and see if Kunbuntu
has its act together by now. Pretty disappointed.
