Could you please add the journal from the date when this happened?
You can export the journal with journalctl.
journalctl --list-boots will give you the list of boot number and timestamps
journalctl -b ID will print the content of the journal for a given boot.
Extract to a file the journal for the boot when the kernel update failed
and attach it to this report.
