What graphics hardware to you have? Could you provide us with the
/etc/X11/xorg.conf file that is generated when you insert the live cd?
If it feels more comfortable to you, you can always switch to a terminal window
(which should display correctly) using Ctrl+Alt and one of your function keys
(F1,F2,...).
