I can not reproduce this. Did you by any chance browse those folders with dolphin as root at any time?
Theory: dolphin running as root with the "Save view properties for each folder"-box ticked will overwrite the users .dolphinview files with root-owned .dolphinview files, and that way make it impossible for the user to switch usermode.
