So, although `pci=nommconf` gets rid of the error flood, it does
apparently make some collateral damage. After a few days under this
kernel parameter, the person who uses the laptop on a daily basis
reported a decrease in responsiveness and stability, with occasional
stutters if I understood correctly. Then I was called to help with a
black screen. And indeed, there was nothing to be done but a hard power-
off. I couldn't even access a tty. At that point I decided to stop the
experiment and reverted to `pci=noaer`; the system then returned to its
normal behavior.

I am now trying `pcie_aspm=off`. That apparently gets rid of the errors
as well. Hopefully the trade-off is limited to less efficient power
saving, which doesn't matter as the laptop is nearly always connected to
a power source. Besides, if the error messages were of any indication,
ASPM did not work correctly anyway; so, potentially power management
won't get worse (what's there to lose by disabling a malfunctioning
feature?).
