OMG, you smashed my stack!!!

On a fresh install of Kubuntu 7.10 i386, installed from the Alternate
Install CD.  Initial run of Adept Manager to perform Full Upgrade, I get
the following messages:

GUI:
"There was an error commiting changes. Possibly there was a problem downloading 
some packages or the commit would break packages."

Details:
